Upkeep of your Furniture
Entretenir vos meubles signés Ernest Ménard
Wood is a living material which develops and requires regular maintenance, in order to withstand the passage of time. Wood naturally presents shades, streaks and silver grains.
All kinds of woods, without any exception, see their color evolving in time. Light woods are particularly sensitive to ultraviolet rays. No process can avoid this phenomenon; at the very most it can be delayed by including anti-ultraviolet products into the varnish.
That’s why we inform you that a piece of furniture bought today will be different from the same piece of furniture chosen 6 months ago. The difference produced by the effects of the ultraviolet rays will progressively decrease in time.
. VARNISHED furniture
If you want to make your varnished item of furniture last, we recommend that you use colourless liquid beeswax, every 6 months.
The surface to be maintained must be perfectly dry and clean. If necessary, remove superficial stains with a damp sponge and dry with a soft cloth.
Apply a moderate quantity of beeswax on a soft cloth. Do not apply directly on your item of furniture.
Rub evenly on your furniture.
. WAXED furniture
If you want to make your polished item of furniture last, we recommend that you use colourless beeswax, every 6 months.
The surface to be maintained must be perfectly dry and clean. If necessary, remove superficial stains with a damp sponge and dry with a soft cloth.
Apply a moderate quantity of beeswax on a soft cloth. Do not apply directly onto your item of furniture.
Rub evenly into a thin film and let it impregnate the wood for 2 to 3 minutes. Remove excess beeswax with a clean soft cloth.
. Care of FROSTED GLASS
In order to keep the brightness of frosted glass, it’s advisable to use an alcohol-based cleaning product.
We strongly advise not to use a classical cleaning product for glasses because the grease remover agents it contains would alter the protective varnish of the frosted glass in the end.
. PLEASE DO NOT
Expose your item of furniture to a direct source of strong heat (open fire, radiator, …) otherwise solid panels could shrink.
- Expose your item of furniture to direct light (sun or moon rays); it could modify the colour of the wood.
- Neglect the maintenance of your item of furniture, as it would no longer be protected.
- Use an inappropriate maintenance product. Never use a product containing solvents or silicone.
- Within time, colour of extensions could be different from table if extensions are not exposed to light.
. PLEASE DO
Make sure wedging is perfectly done. The top of the piece of furniture has to be level for doors and drawers to work correctly.
To avoid doors from bending, make sure to close them after use.
Protect varnished areas from hot dishes and from humidity (flower bowl, glasses …).
Use a soft and dry cloth for maintenance.
